The Governments of Canada and Ontario offer many financial assistance and incentive programs to assist business.  A selection of programs of interest to research-intensive businesses can be found below.  Please note that the content for these pages has been provided by the Canada Ontario Business Service Centre (COBSC).

Canadian Environmental Technology Advancement Centres: CETACs help SMEs commercialize environmental technologies through support services such as general business development counselling, market analysis, assistance in raising capital, and technical assistance
CRC - Communications Research Centre Canada: The CRC is the Canadian government's primary laboratory for research and development (R&D) in advanced telecommunications
Earth Sciences Information Centre - ESIC: Provides the earth science community with a single contact point for their information needs and integrates the delivery of traditional library-based services with the development and marketing of new, technology-driven information products and services
Environmental Industries: This Web site offers information on the Canadian environment industry
Federal Business Immigration Program: The Federal Business Immigration Program seeks to attract people experienced in business to Canada.
Financial Support - Science and Technology: This Info-Guide provides an overview of financial support that does not fall under the categories of grants, employment subsidies or tax credits. It lists these alternative forms of financial support potentially available for businesses in Ontario
 Funding Guide for International Science and Technology Cooperation: A guide describing the grants and bursaries, post-doctoral fellowships, and major international prizes available for Canadian research institutes, universities and firms for research
Going Global Science and Technology Fund: The Going Global Fund, administered by DFAIT, provides financial assistance to Canadian researchers in the identification and the establishment of new international collaborative R&D initiatives

Intellectual Property - IP Toolkit: The toolkit is based on the top questions that entrepreneurs ask about Intellectual Property (IP) including patents, trade-marks, copyrights and industrial designs
Internship Program with Innovative Small and Medium Enterprises: The program provides financial assistance to innovative Canadian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for the hiring of post-secondary graduates to work on innovation projects in these firms
New Environmental Technologies Evaluation (NETE): This program provides an opportunity for the private sector to have new environmental technologies evaluated and assessed by the Ministry of Environment
Non-Financial Support - Science and Technology: This Info-Guide provides an overview of non-financial support, potentially available for businesses in Ontario involved in science and technology, including programs offered or supported by the governments of Canada and Ontario
NRCan Science and Technology Internship Program: This program helps employers hire recent graduates in science and engineering by partially funding salaries. Likewise, the program provides relevant and meaningful work experience to these graduates
NRC Institute for Biodiagnostics (NRC-IBD): The NRC Institute for Biodiagnostics (NRC-IBD) promotes socio-economic well-being, and acts as an industrial catalyst, through research and development in leading-edge, instrumentally based, medical diagnostic technologies
NRC Biotechnology Research Institute (NRC-BRI): NRC Biotechnology Research Institute (NRC-BRI), the largest research facility devoted to biotechnology in Canada, promotes, assists and conducts leading-edge R&D collaborations, services and technology transfers with the biotechnology industry
NRC Institute for Biological Sciences (NRC-IBS): The NRC Institute for Biological Sciences (NRC-IBS) does innovative research in the application of neuro-and glycosciences to reduce the impact of age-related and infectious diseases. Research programs are carried out with partners in industry, universities, hospitals and other R&D organizations
NRC Institute for Microstructural Sciences (NRC-IMS): The NRC-IMS develops novel materials, devices and processes to be used by Canadian high tech sectors in the creation of next generation hardware
NRC Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) : NRC-IRAP provides a range of technical and business advisory services along with potential financial support to growth-oriented Canadian small and medium enterprises (SMEs)
Science and Technology Program - FAITC: FAITC's Science and Technology Program strengthens Canada's science and technology capacity and promotes international business
Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED)  - Canada Revenue Agency: This program offers investment tax credit (ITC) of 35% for eligible expenditures for SR&ED carried out in Canada.  
Sustainable Development Technology Canada: Funding and support for the development and demonstration of clean technologies
