- Professor Ronald Baecker, Professor of Computer Science, Bell Chair in Human Computer Interaction, and founder and Chief Scientist of the Knowledge Media Design Institute at the University of Toronto, has been named one of the 60 Pioneers of Computer Graphics by ACM SIGGRAPH, has been elected to the CHI Academy by ACM SIGCHI, and has been given the Canadian Human Computer Communications Society Achievement Award in May 2005
- Professor Baochun Li, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Bell Chair in Computer Systems at University of Toronto, was the recipient of the IEEE Communications Society Leonard G. Abraham Award in the Field of Communications Systems in 2000
- Professor Renee Miller, Professor and Bell Chair of Information Systems at University of Toronto, was the recipient of the 1997 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientist and Engineers and the National Science Foundation Early Career Award for her work on heterogeneous databases and was named an Ameritech Faculty Fellow.

Recent selected research projects include:
- The Enterprise Services Bus Middleware for the decentralized management and execution of business processes. The project is directly applicable to manage complex business processes specified in the standard BPEL language, such as processes found in the emerging eHealth initiatives
- Middleware for sensor/actuator networks. The project is directly applicable to the management of data in RFID-based supply chains Aspect-oriented software development for C-based systems. The AspectC
