The interactive map tool has several features to help users find information about companies and research organizations in the Toronto Region. Quick Tips will help you get started; for a more detailed overview, read the Map Guide
Interactive Features
- Find information about specific locations - see Interactive Features Legend to the right of the map
Navigating the Map
- There are 5 zoom levels. Click on the + and - signs to transfer between levels.
- Click on the >< signs in the upper left corner to move north, south, east or west. Or, place the cursor on the map and move it in the desired direction.
Menu Bar
- Research Organizations (universities, colleges, research institutes, and research hospitals) are shown on the base map upon landing
- Companies are organized under sectors and sub-sectors.
- Select the sector or sub-sector to display the companies in that grouping.
- To clear, unselect the box or click the Clear button.
Search
- Use the Search function to find a research organization or company, and display it on the map.
- Start to type the name, and the closest match will appear. Continue typing the term or select one of the options from the list and click Search.
- The number of results will show in the status bar in the Currently Viewing line.
- Search results will be displayed on the map with a pop-up that contains basic information about the research organization or company.
- Click on the Organization Profile link in the bubble to see more detailed information.
Search Results - Area Report and Report Builder
- The interactive map allows users to access standard statistical reports related to an intersection or organization location: general demographics, workplace establishments, labour force and education
- Click on the Area Report link in the bubble to display a tree control and a toolbar.
- The tree control organizes the reports under their major categories. Click the + icon to reveal the sub-categories. Each sub-category contains three file formats - (PDF, XLS or HTML)
- Select a report or series of reports by clicking the checkbox. You will notice the counter at the bottom of the dialogue box change.
- Save the checked items to your Info Basket by clicking Save on the toolbar. A message will appear to indicate how many items were added.
- You can save multiple times before you check out.
Info Basket - Checkout
- When you have completed your research, click on the Info Basket link on the right side of the status bar above the map. The link will display the number of reports that have been saved. If there any reports that you do not want to download, simply unselect them by clicking on the checkbox.
- When you have finalized your selection, click on Checkout. A link to the compiled PDF report or compiled ZIP file for XLS and HTML reports will appear.If you wish to clear the contents of your Info Basket, click on Clear.
